Hershberger Performance Sale Company, Jason and Nikki Hershberger, held their eighth annual performance horse sale Saturday, March 2 in Queen Creek, Ariz., at the Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Center.

Horses were previewed on Friday in a jackpot team roping. The jackpot was won by Kim Gillespie riding hip #128, JL Fast Time Zan and Blaine Ketscher, riding hip #120, Fishorcut. It was a tough roping and fun to watch!

Horses were previewed again on Saturday. Horses were demonstrated in the events of: roping, cutting, cow horse, reining, and barrels. The sale began at one o’clock. A professional staff included: auctioneer Joel White; announcer John Johnson, and bid spotters included Stacy Lee, Mitch Armitage, and Cas Salley, and the office was managed by Sara Vaessen Pedigrees and Maynard & Associates Elite Auction Services. Performance Equine mobile clinic was available for pre-purchase exams.

The high-selling horse, Hes A Smart Buy, was consigned by Jed Jacobs. Hes A Smart Buy is a five-year-old, Hes A Peptospoonful bay roan gelding. He is an awesome heel and cowhorse. He sold for $30,000 to Fred and Marion Holly of Washington. Other top-10 selling horses were consigned by: Cody Wensing, Chad Turner, Rick Chayer, Corey Cushing, Brad Lund and Clay Logan for RCJ Cutting Horses, Ryan Von Ahn, Manerd Bird, Kim Gillespie, Brandon Johnson, Victor Aros for Bob Scott, and Jason Hershberger. The top 10 horses averaged $19,850. In all, 85 horses were sold.

Jason is always excited to see good horses from the sale go on to be successful with their new owners. Jason was glad to see the quality of horses that were brought by consignors from Arizona, California, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Montana and Canada.

The overall average sale price on the horses sold was $8,782. Thanks to the consignors who brought these quality horses.

This year’s lucky buyers were Tommy Crowson and Renate Daniels. They took home the Stray Dog trophy saddle from the raffle drawing at the end of the sale. We were excited to see them take home some great geldings.

Good food, beautiful Arizona weather, elite equine facility, shopping, and great horses to watch and bid on made this year’s performance horse sale a success. Hershberger Performance Horses would like to thank all who attended. We are grateful to all of our buyers who trust in the quality brought to the Hershberger Performance Horse Sale.

Wyatt Hershberger started the sale by jumping Reams Black Gold into the arena.
