CHOWCHILLA, CALIF. – I must say this was another awesome year in the books as we continue to grow bigger and better. We held it the weekend of Dec. 12-13 and decided to stick with the Chowchilla Fairgrounds as they were so accommodating last year. The ground was amazing thanks to Nathan Ornellas and Daryl Smith. Parking and stalls were full but we had plenty of room and the huge, nice, indoor arena came in handy when it started to rain on Sunday.

The C-N Stallion Service Auction had 73 beautiful well-bred stallions donated this year, raising $41,200 to the added futurity and incentive pot, once again almost doubling our previous year’s total of 40 stallions and $24,000. The great thing about this auction is there is a stallion for every discipline. We not only had barrel bred stallions, but cutters and reiners, rope horse stallions, and racehorse bred. All were AQHA stallions with proven bloodlines. You could not go wrong bidding on any one of these stallions, the deals were amazing! The owners have been wonderful to work with and extremely supportive of this program. We thank them for that. This race could not be what it is without the stallion owners.

This is our second year paying out to the C-N Stallion Incentive Program which is exciting and growing fast. Last year our Incentive paid just over $5,000. This year we more than doubled that pot paying out over $14,000 to stallions and their qualified colts. This program is free to all stallions who donate a breeding to the C-N Stallion Service Auction on a continuing basis. The auction starts on Oct. 15 each year. 100% of the money raised from this program goes to the C-N California Futurity and C-N Stallion Incentive Program. The payout percentage is based on the percentage of qualified colts entered in the Futurity. To learn more go to www.cbarnquarterhorses.com. We will continue advertise your stallion year round.

A huge thank you to our sponsors this year: saddle sponsors included once again: Don and Katie McCaslan of Shining M Ranch, Raisin City; Shelley Chico of The Brand’n Crew Roofing, Porterville; Paul and Teri Deutsch and Fairlea Steady Harry, Clovis; Stephen and Kimberli Quinn of Tri SK, Reno, Nev., and an anonymous sponsor rounded up by Rena Elkins to help upgrade our saddles this year. Buckle sponsors included local supporters Rockin J.R. Ranch of Chowchilla, who also opened up their ranch to help accommodate stalls for an overflow of contestants; Charlene Jespersen and Alma’s Flea Market, Hanford,; Bryan and Pamela Scheer, Shining S Ranch of Ceres; and Stacy Dial and Kathy’s Show Equipment of Vista. Other award  sponsors include Jody Reese Designs, Gina Graham and Vetericyn, Jen Rose and The California Rose Futurity/Derby Series; Jeff and Stacy Freitas and JF Videos; Deb Mann, Photographer; Performance Horse Stallions; Sherrie Jones and Jones Ranch; Katie Pascoe; Missy Tuck and Splinters Custom Wood; Adriana Correia and Equine Body Basics; TBC; Lori Meneses, Meneses Leather Work and Horse Shoeing; Steve & Kathy Branco, Branco Ranch Furniture; Sheena Robbins; Sami Jo Robbins and Broken Arrow; Janel Flook and KS Cash N Fame; Melissa Shurr and Equine Dental Care; RodeoLog.com; Twisted Wire; Julie Curry and Cowgirl Glitz Boutique; Cindy Mims and Colony Mortgage; Rhinestone Cowgirl; Dave Spurr and Spurr Ranch; Deven Warren, DW Performance Horses; Stacy Neeley, Krikitt Smith; Cezanne Baker and OJS Future; Holly Harris and The Harold Riva Race; the Crowder family, Robbie, Missy and Peyton; Lacey Lockard; Mathis Ranch; Lame Away; Christy and Brett Ward. Our Derby and Open race $3,000 cash sponsor Nathan’s Diesel Service of Lemoore; Daryl and MaryAnn Smith, Candy Forsberg, and Wild Gold.

Each futurity contestant received a gift bag at check-in and the top seven average Futurity winners took home loads of goodies. Top six Maturity contestants took home awards in the average.

There was one accident at the beginning of the weekend. We look forward to seeing Cody Hyde back in the saddle again real soon. He’s always a pleasure to be around, kind and considerate. We are thankful he joined us the last couple years. Our prayers go out to him for a speedy recovery.

There are so many who stepped up to help pick up barrels and work the gate. I apologize for not mentioning everyone’s names, however there were more people out there than I was able to keep track off and I am forever grateful to you. Several friends hung in the office all weekend long without a break and huge appreciation goes out to them. Robbie Crowder worked the office check-ins, entries, and announced all weekend. He and his wife and daughter came all the way from Colorado to help us out. I am so appreciative of them and all their help the entire week before the futurity. I learned a lot from Robbie.  Christy Ward, Missy Crowder, Bailey Nahrgang, Tracy Mauer and Krista Williams ran the office very smoothly. I got nothing but compliments about how friendly the office crew was.  They are a great bunch of people. We were blessed to have them all here with us the entire weekend. Thank you all for an outstanding race! It ran smooth and fast! Another great weekend in the books.

Note: For the 2016 Stallion Incentive Auction and Buy In Stallion Owners: There will be deadlines on all stallions being allowed into the auction and buy in. All new stallions must commit to a 3-year donation to be eligible for the Incentive Program.
