Classic Barrel Racing
The Spring Run Classic takes place yearly the second weekend in April, sometimes we have sunshine and beautiful weather and sometimes we have rain pouring down…this year was the latter, we had RAIN and lots of it. Contestants arrived Friday and Saturday and checked in and got their awesome goodie bags thanks to some fabulous sponsors! We were able to run Friday night in our main/standard size pattern arena but Saturday was a barrel racer’s worst nightmare…we had standing water in the main arena, we tried pumping it but the rain kept on coming! We had to make some MAJOR changes, we moved to the covered arena which is a dressage court! Yep, fast time of the weekend was a 12.6! The crew at Diamond Bar Arena worked efficiently to turn the covered dressage court into a super-fast and super tight barrel arena a mere 35 feet between the first and second barrel! I have to give credit to not only the staff but to the contestants, many were worried about the size of the pattern but I have to say everyone stepped up to the challenge and made some amazingly fun and exciting runs!
The Spring Run Classic average champion is Kaillee Hamre on Made Me A Wild Bill, her two run average was 25.79, which set the pace for the weekend. Vicky Cook took 2nd in the 1D average on Good Draw Day with a 26.10 on two, she was also our High Stakes Open Barrel Race Champion, which paid her $1,164 for ONE run! The High Stakes Open Barrel Race was something new for us, it was a 2D race with a .7 second split, while the small pattern was challenging it was definitely great to watch some of the best horses compete back to back.
We asked a few contestants to give us their thoughts, and here is what they had to say.

This weekend would not have been possible without our amazing hosts of Diamond Bar Arena, Shane and Kim Parson, without the staff of Classic Barrel Racing, Stefani Hofman and Ashley Hofman, these ladies worked tirelessly in the office and in the timing booth and without our amazing contestants who stuck it out and surprised themselves on their ability to jockey their horses through a tight pattern!
