God Loves Team Ropers!
There was a lot of anticipation and excitement in our minds as we pulled in to Reno for the ACTRA National Finals. Then we saw the parking lot.. Wow! Trying to find a place to park your truck and trailer was a challenge. I began to think about all the things we had in common as I looked around. Diesel trucks, horse trailers, beautiful horses, saddles, tack, blankets, water buckets and people with armloads of hay looking for stalls.
There were families, young people, guys and gals, grandparents, dogs, children, old friends and others we had roped with somewhere in the past. Many watching the roping were running from one arena to the next to cheer their teams on. It was inspiring to watch little kids at the dummy ropings, and the little bit older ones competing with the adults. And how about those with physical handicaps competing and doing so well in the arena? I thought about all those hours of practice, driving to arenas, time away from ones we love, taking care of our horses, hours throwing at dummies – what a commitment.
One thing in common that united us was the rope we all carried the desire to catch four steers, and win some money. Man I love this sport! Over the past few years I have also learned that there is more to life than just team roping. There is one who wants to partner with us in all of our activities. He is a loving father, very proud of his kids who said, "I am with you always" and "I will never forsake you or abandon you." You see, He is not about religion, but a relationship with us, just like we have with our children. However, He took it a step farther. "Jesus died for you knowing that you may never love him back. THAT is true love!" Proverbs 3:5-6 says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t lean on your own understanding and He will make your path straight."
God loves team ropers... I’m proud to have Him with me all the time. I hope you had a great finals, that you enjoyed your Thanksgiving, and that you keep Christ in your Christmas. Enjoy roping and all the things we have in common. Pack your rope, win some money and be thankful for the one who wants to ride with you.
