ELLENSBURG, WASH. – Twelve years after the inaugural event, Scott and Jo Repp continue to host the biggest open roping in the Northwest. The day prior to the Ellensburg, Wash., PRCA Rodeo, the best of the best flocked to the WestStar Arena. Many of the PRCA ropers start arriving mid-August and WestStar is their home for three to four weeks while traveling to rodeos in the Pacific Northwest. They enjoy having their families close and horses on grass as well as a place to rope each day.

This year, Lane Ivy and Cesar de la Cruz partnered up to win the five steer average with a time of 29.77, winning  $20,000, buckles and other great awards. Tyler Wade and Kinney Harrell roped the fastest steer of the weekend with a time of 4.75, winning $2,500.

77 teams entered the roping that had fees of $500 per man. 

Warm-Up roping for the open events was a ProAm team roping. Winners were Am Header, Mark Anderson, who had Brady Minor heeling for him. Champion Am Heeler was Doug Funk with Charly Crawford heading for him.

Riley Minor and Brady Minor, 31.11, $9,000. 5. Charly Crawford and Cole Davison, 31.33, $7,000. 6. Jake Barnes and Martin Lucero, 33.27, $5,000. 7. Clayton Hansen and Chase Hansen, 33.50, $3,000. 8. David Key and Rich Skelton, 34.83, $3,000. 9. Bryce Palmer and Jake Minor, 37.59, $2,000.

Fast time of the day: 1. Tyler Wade and Kinney Harrell, 4.75, $2,500. 2. David Key and Rich Skelton, 5.02. $1,500.

The Dummy Roping was again a great crowd pleaser. Colby Corkill (repeat winner from 2014) won the 4 & under division; Braylon Tryan, the 5-7 division and Newt Lamond, the 8-10 yr. old division.
