Vernon and Norma Green.

VALLEY SPRINGS, CALIF. – Vernon Lee Green was born in Bengal, Oklahoma on Feb. 13, 1949 to William David Green and Mauline Heaton. He went home to be with the Lord on May, 5, 2021.

His parents moved him to Stockton, Calif. at a young age. He moved to the same neighborhood where his future wife Norma Jean Baccus resided. Vernon and Norma attended the same elementary school and were in the same class from kindergarten through the second grade. The Green family then moved back to Oklahoma, returning to Stockton the summer before his sophomore year of high school. The Green family returned to the same neighborhood and that is when the romance started. Vernon Green and Norma Baccus became high school sweethearts. They got married right out of high school at the age of 19 in 1967. They had a wonderful 57 years of life together.
Vernon and Norma raised four beautiful children who he was so proud of and loved each one of them with all his heart. They had a daughter Denise (Dee Dee) Marie Green who married Jason Weatherby and blessed him with three wonderful grandsons including Austin who married Rachel Fitch and are currently residing in Chico, Calif. as well as Logan and Colton from Valley Springs. Oldest son Christopher Todd Green blessed Vernon with three more wonderful grandsons, Tanner, Caleb and Carson all from Texas. Middle son is Vernon Daniel Green who married Shawnda Arnold and blessed him with two wonderful granddaughters and another grandson, Grace, Kyndall and Elijah all from Oakdale. David William Shields came to live with the Green’s when he was six years old and became one of Vernon’s own sons. David married Julie Baker and blessed the family with two more wonderful grandsons, Conway and Cash.
At the beginning of Vernon and Norma’s marriage, Vernon worked for the pencil factory in Stockton, soon moving on to work for Fisher Brothers house movers. He then became a horseshoer by day and worked for Sunbeam Bakery at night. Eventually his brothers talked him into framing with them. He worked hard to learn the trade of building houses and soon got his contractor’s license. Vernon has built many homes in the Valley Springs and surrounding areas. He wasl also instrumental in building Glory Bound Fellowship in Burson, Calif. He worked in construction for 45 years.
Besides loving and taking care of his family, Vernon’s passion in life was team roping. He immediately taught his whole family to rope and it became a family affair. The family roped nearly every weekend when the kids were growing up. That was pretty much all Vernon did was work all week. He couldn’t wait for the weekend to go roping again. It was a love that the family all shared and it extended outside the immediate family.
Vernon was the California Cowboys Association State Champion in 1976. He was instrumental in coaching two of his sons to many championships, including multiple trips to the National Finals Rodeos.
He is survived by his wife and his daughter, three sons and 11 grandchildren, his son-in-law and three daughters-in-law who he loved with all his heart. Also his sister Darlene Woodard from Texas, his brothers Virgil and Everett Green from Oklahoma and Melvin Green from Nevada, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was one of a kind, touching the heart of anyone who was lucky enough to know him.
